Picturesque Lake Forest is nestled on the north shore of Lake Michigan. Incorporated in 1861, it has a rich history. Some of the wonderful features include award-winning public and private schools, top-rated hospital, charming historic Market Square shopping area, great restaurants, and two commuter trains serving Lake Forest to downtown Chicago.

Lake Forest boasts a wonderful Parks & Recreation department offering a wide variety of activities for people of all ages. Forest Park Beach is a 29-acre park, which includes walking paths, a playground, and a beautiful beach and convenient boat launch area for swimming and other water activities. There are 12 parks in the community with playgrounds, pavilions, sport fields, walking trails and much more.

Originally, Lake Forest streets were laid out to follow the natural contours of the land rather than in grid fashion. An idea popular at the time was to have the feel of a city within a park. Open land abounds in Lake Forest with over 800 acres of open space forming six nature preserves. There are 12 miles of walking trails within the city limits. Lake Forest has been named a Tree City USA for more than 25 straight years.

Driving up and down Lake Road.  Not only is it a beautiful drive but it is a historical and architectural experience. This is where many of the captains of industry lived who once shaped the history of our country and the Midwest. The Armours, the Wrigleys, the Edward Byron Smith family are a few. Lake Road is the home to wonderful  examples of architects like Howard Van Doren Shaw, David Adler, Ike Colburn, and Walter Frazier.

Touring around town is not only a beautiful drive, but it is a historical and architectural experience, as well. This is where many of the captains of industry lived who once shaped the history of the Midwest and our country. Additionally, the list of significant architects who have built homes in Lake Forest includes Howard Van Doren Shaw, David Adler, Ike Colburn, Walter Frazier and Edwin H. Clark.

Currently the population of Lake Forest is just under 20,000. We are proud to be residents of this special community and are happy to show you all Lake Forest has to offer.
