There are 12 parks in the community with playgrounds, pavilions, sport fields, walking trails and much more.
Originally, Lake Forest streets were laid out to follow the natural contours of the land rather than in grid fashion. An idea popular at the time was to have the feel of a city within a park. Open land abounds in Lake Forest with over 800 acres of open space forming six nature preserves. There are 12 miles of walking trails within the city limits. Lake Forest has been named a Tree City USA for more than 25 straight years.
